CourseDB provides powerful filtering tools to help you discover courses that match your specific needs and interests.
Using the Filtering Sidebar
The filtering sidebar is located on the left side of the courses page and offers several ways to narrow down your search:
1. Search by Course Code or Name
- Use the search bar at the top to enter course codes (e.g., "COMP1511") or course names
- The search works with partial matches, so typing "COMP" will show all computer science courses
2. Filter by Faculty/School
- Select from the faculty dropdown to see courses from specific schools
- Common faculties include Engineering, Science, Arts & Social Sciences, Business, etc.
3. Filter by Units of Credit
- Choose courses based on their credit value (typically 3 units)
- Useful for planning your course load and degree requirements
4. Filter by Type
- Select course types such as:
- MR: Major Requirement
- ME: Major Elective
- GE: General Education
- FE: Free Elective
5. Filter by Prerequisites (Coming Soon)
- Toggle to show only courses with no prerequisites
- Helpful for finding entry-level courses or planning your study sequence
Tips for Effective Course Discovery
- Start broad, then narrow: Begin with faculty or general search terms, then apply specific filters
- Check prerequisites: Always verify you meet the requirements before enrolling
- Read reviews: Use the average rating and review count to gauge course quality
- Plan ahead: Some courses are only offered in specific semesters
